About this Event

“Enabling Innovation” is a corporate initiative at HMSA giving every employee an opportunity to practice and participate in innovation using up to 10% of company time.  Using experiential learning and a visual presentation, we hope you will learn:

  • What is innovation and barriers to innovation
  • HMSA’s journey on implementing the innovation initiative
  • What is a climate of innovation and why it’s important
  • The innovation pipeline process to help guide employees
  • Critical success factors  
  • What innovation means to employees

Parking is available in the visitor parking on the First and Second Floors of the HMSA Center. Parking will be validated. We highly encourage you to car pool and to arrive early. Please take the elevator to the ground level to get to room, MPR A & B.

About the Presenters

Doug Jeffs is Senior Manager of the HMSA Innovation Center. Before joining HMSA in 1996, he spent 15 years with IBM. While at HMSA, he has been in a variety of roles in Information Systems and became a founding member of the HMSA Innovation Center. He was the lead facilitator and a co-developer of HMSA's Enabling Innovation framework.

Originally from Japan, Ai Tanaka was Innovation Consultant at the HMSA Innovation Center working with Doug before transitioning to her current position of Senior Consultant, Continuous Improvement at HMSA.  Prior to relocating to Hawai’i in 2013, she worked for an operations management consulting firm in Connecticut for 15 years, initially starting out in Training & Organization Development roles, then later helping manufacturing companies in the U.S., Mexico and Russia improve safety, quality and productivity utilizing the Toyota Production System.

AOE (Area of Expertise):

The AOE's for this Event is "Coaching", "Managing Learning Programs", and “Change Management”, three of 10 ATD competencies.  You will receive a stamp for this event on your Area of Expertise tracking card. (Tracking cards are available at the event.)

Everyone who obtains stamps in all 10 Areas of Expertise in 2015 will receive an ATD Area of Expertise Certificate of Completion for 2015.  There will also be a drawing at the end of the year to win an All-Access Pass to attend all events in 2016 for FREE! (You must be an ATD Member to be eligible for this drawing.)
